Nice Feature to avoid crashing new programs
« on: January 05, 2008, 02:55:56 PM »
Hi  new member...currently CNC'ing a 1340 lathe... my second project..did a X2 mill a few years ago.

My milltroincs machining center has a really nice feature for debugging new programs. In handwheel mode the program only runs when the hand wheel is being turned. The feed rate is proportional to the rate the hand wheel is turned. When the hand wheel is stopped the program pauses even if in the middle of a long move. The only command it will finish once started is rigid tapping for obvious reasons. With Mach's support of MPGs, this seems like it would be feasible. I like it better than single stepping a program, because once you hit the button, that next step completes.

Regards,

Chuck

Have you tried the MPG in shuttle mode? Not exactly what your describing, but close I think. Select shuttle mode, then start program and crank MPG. Do it in the air first of course.
