driver watch dog triggered
« on: December 14, 2007, 08:52:11 AM »
does anyone know what "driver watch dog triggered"  means?  i am fairly new (1 year)  to mach 3 and don't know what needs to be fixed.  when i get this error my table unlocks and the program calls for reset.

any help would be welcome.

thanks

Check out this thread - Art says  "Just select config/general, and turn off "Use Watchdogs" ", thatll cure it.."

Hi,
Could someone briefly explain what the "Driver Watchdog" actually watches ? Does it monitor the speed, variation or both...or more ?
Is there set or adjustable thresholds ?
Searches and docs. basically say "Just disable it." Easy enough, but doesn't that just defeat it's purpose ?
Thanks,
RC

I.ve no idea, but it could be one of those features that was thought necessary when the software was being developed, and has proved to be a little too "good" and triggers when it really hasn't got any need to. I would have thought if the drivers went up the spout we would see the problem manifest itself in other ways as well.

If Art says turn it off - well what more can I say.
Not me driving the engine - I'm better looking.

Thanks Jim,
Just a curiosity I guess. It's just those "Other Manifestations" you mentioned that had me a little concerned. But...I haven't heard of any problems resulting from leaving it disabled. Just curious as to how it was intended to function.
What the heck.....  hopefully, the "reduction in safety" wont hurt anything. :D

You should note that his responce to turn the watchdog off was in reference to someone doing video probeing. Not a machine with a cutter.

If I had something important to say it would be here.

Thanks Drew, I didn't notice that.
Guess I will leave it enabled....for safety sake if nothing else.
