Hi, Lar45

"I'm almost thinking that this might be because of the slow CPU, 450"

You will have better results with CPU of 1000 or more, Mach has allot of things going on in the background.

Try to find another computer to compare it with.

Thanks, Chip

I installed Mach2 and  had to use the special driver for it also.  The lathe moves and works fine with Mach2.  Yeah!

I'll see about getting a better/faster computer as Mach3 looks pretty cool.  Atleast it's up and running again now.

Here's a Noob question-
What are the normal axis labels for a mill and lathe?  I have the Smithy CB-1239XL combo machine(anybody want to trade?)
So for a lathe the axis moveing towards and away from the chuck is the X axis?
Moveing towards the centerline is the Y axis?
And then for the Mill, up and down is the Z axis?

The Mach2 turn setup shows the X and Z axis.

I bought a machine and CNC text book at the university to get started with.  This is probably all covered in there someplace.

Thanks again for the  help.

Hi, Lar45

Lathe Z- towards spindle, Z+ away from spindle, X- towards center line cut, X+ away from center line.

Mach3Turn Manual,  http://www.machsupport.com/documentation/Using3Turn.pdf
