Dell model DHP
« on: November 20, 2007, 07:57:41 PM »
 ???
The PC that I have to use for Mach3 is a Dell model DHP. (sticker on bottom)
2.6G / 512 Ram
I searched all I could to find that this should be adequate.
Problem is that it is a small very compact case and there is no apparent slot for a PCI card.
There is a modem in it but the mounting plate that has the jacks on it is much shorter than any PCI card that I can find.
The unit is black and gray, when you open it the disc drives are attached to the lid.
I will need the PCI for the added I/O.
Does anyone have any experience with these ?
I will appreciate any help I can get,
Thanks

I found that it is a "Small Form Factor Desktop"
It requires a low profile expansion card, and there's only room for 1.
Does anyone have a link to a supplier ?
Any ratings or personal experiences pertaining to this choice are welcome.
Thanks

Chip,
What I have is a desktop, not a laptop. The PCI card is basicaly the same as a normal one ony lower profle and the mounting bracket is shorter.

Thanks for the link though, they do have quite a variety.

Hi,
I have a couple of NEC small form desk tops, both have pci parallel ports fitted.
All you need to do is buy half hight cards(most cheaper cards are),remove the mounting plate and "modify" the
plate to fit.

Tony,
That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. My local Radio Shack has these for $14.
It looked like it would fit except for the bracket.
The guy at the store said just hack it off. I thought he was kidding !
I'll get one tomorrow.
Thanks a lot Tony

no prob,
place the card in the slot with the standard plate on and mark the point at which to bend it.
bend the plate before shortening it,you can always hammer it flat again if you get it wrong.
you will need to use the single securing screw to stop it flapping about!
