MACH4 Warp9 ESS Homing causing Mach4 to exit
« on: June 04, 2023, 03:27:03 PM »
Can't figure this one out.  I have Mach4 with a Warp9 ESS board.  Everything works except for when I home the machine.  It homes in the proper direction, touches the switches (I have two steppers on Y and thus two switches, one per stepper).  The machine moves to home, touches the switches, moves slowly away from the switch and then MACH4 exits.  As it, Mach4 exits to the desktop. When I go  back into Mach4, I can continue from there if I wish.  Just don't ref home.

Quick FYI, Mach4 version is 4.2.0.4809 and I've tried three different versions of Warp9 ESS (283, 284 & 285 - no change).

Hi,
do your two switches do double duty as Limit switches, as well as Home switches?

If they are may I suggest disable the limits on that axis and try again.

I've been using mach4 and an ESS for eight years, and when I home I have no difficulty. Having said that I have only one home switch per axis, ie I do not
have double motors.

Thank for the reply. Sorry, not using the switches as limit switches.  I also disconnected one switch, configured the ESS plugin to only use one switch but the same thing happens.  Mach4 just exits.  I turned on logging.  It shows the switch (or switches) activating and then nothing (probably because Mach4 crashed).  So I checked Windows Event Viewer, nothing there, no errors or anything.  Really has me baffled.

OK, solved.  I upgraded Mach4 to version 4.2.0.5134 and ESS to version 285.  For some reason I had to turn on the homing switches for motor1 & motor2 also but that's OK as I'm now going to wire in those two switches anyway.  I just normally like to add and test one item at a time.

That makes sense. When you ask Mach4 to <Ref All> it will start to do so only to find that there is no home switch assigned for a particular axis and it will crash.

If you do not have a switch wired for an axis at the present time you need to check the <Home in Place> box for that axis  so Mach4 has a viable operation to perform
rather than home an axis for which there is no switch.
