I know on the CNC Zone your first post is always moderated, sadly that may have to happen here as no doubt he will be back under a different name.

Please do NOT place restrictions on the forum. I am on another forum  for electronic organs ( another of my interests) and we suddenly started getting posts advertising viagra and all sorts of other rubbish. The forum was restricted - and that destroyed the forum. unfortunately.

This is an excellent forum - unfortunately thare are those in the world that cannot let we who enjoy our life to get on with it, without butting in !!!

Every step you take to prevent the spam bots from creating accounts is accounts will be overcome, eventually. The problem is that every step you take to manually screen new users takes an enormous amount of time for the site's moderators. This only adds to the time they have to spend dealing with the few cranky a**holes who always seem to be out to spread hate and discontent (speaking from my experience as a moderator on a few other forums, not about anything I've seen/experienced here).

As forum members we can help out by reporting posts when we see them (there is a report button on each post). This helps take some of the moderators.
Happy machining , Jeff Birt

I think that a lot of users might carry a payload without knowing it. I suggest a housecall at Trend Micro or some other good cleanup software. There is some real cunning trojans out there. One is a variant of tagAsaurus. It uses your system to compromise the forum when you log on. Some really bad sh@# out there. Also check your Hyperterminal's buffer. It is used to gain access to your system. If you see anything there that does not look familiar to you, like"hydraoc.cpp" you'd better check your system.

This might be interesting. http://www.derkeiler.com/Newsgroups/microsoft.public.windowsxp.security_admin/2005-06/1297.html
This is more widespread than most people will want to admit. Eventually the whole web will be compromised.

You have no idea just how many spammers we reject each day, in the last hour I have rejected 4. its an on going battle and they are getting better all the time.  As we have 24 hour moderation we get most of them before you see them, an odd one is going to get onto a board, all I can say is don't get upset, just click the report button and then every moderator gets to know about it and one of us will remove it.

Graham.

I traced one to the first hop, came from a Canadian government institution server.
