how do i get brains to come up on my screen

Not sure what you are meaning, if it is how do you get the editor up to make a brain then you go to the Operator menu then down to Brain Editor.
 You need to have a fairly late version of Mach for Brains to work.

i do not have a brain editor in the Operator menu i have mach3 .do i need to update to get a brain editor?

Yes, you need one of the latest versions, I think it was 2.58 that brains were introduced.
