Author Topic: Mach4 Build 5036 - where did the Probe Calibration Tab go & MACH4 crashes  (Read 497 times)

Hello community,

I had to reinstall MACH4 due to a system crash. I didn't have a backup (shame on me), but I did take screenshots of all configurations. So my new version of Mach4 was up and running within an hour. Now I have a backup :-)

Only: in the current version of Mach4, the Probe tab is missing in wx4.set and thus also the Calibration tab. There is now a separate screen for probing, but I couldn't find the option to calibrate my probe anywhere. How do I do that?

In my helplessness I installed an old version of Mach4 and exported the Probing Tab via the Screen Editor. When trying to import the export in the latest version of Mach4, Mach4 crashes.

So the question remains: how do I calibrate both my probe (3D touch probe) and my tool length sensor?

Maybe you have a hint for me.

Best regards
Hi,
my understanding is that from build 5000 certain sections of the Mach4 code run very much faster than they used to which in turn leads to
a race condition in some, maybe all, the Mach4 ready motion controllers. I may be mistaken but probing is an area where a race condition occurs
and results in faulty behaviour.

NFS has notified all the motion controller manufacturers and they are altering their respective plugins to accommodate the latest Mach builds. Where your
motion control board is at in terms of the updates required is best answered by the manufacturer.

Unless there is a specific need to have the latest build may I suggest to wind back to an earlier and fault free build. Give the motion control manufacturers a chance
to catch up to Mach4.

Hello Craig,

I'm afraid I didn't describe my problem precisely enough. My problem is not my CNC control. I use Pokeys57CNC and it also works wonderfully with the current release of MACH4. My connected 3D measuring probe also works. With the new probing dialog of the current MACH4 release, for example, I can easily determine the center of a hole. In the current MACH4 release, this works either with the probing dialog or with the dialog behind the touch button. So far so good.

What I didn't find: how can I calibrate my 3D touch probe? It seems like there isn't a function for it anymore. And I don't want to rely on the manufacturer's information (2mm diameter of the measuring tip). There was a calibration feature in the 4xx builds.

So the idea was to export this dialog from the 4xx build and import it into the current build. Unfortunately MACH4 crashes during import.

I'm probably just blind and don't see the one button that leads me to calibration....
Hi,
so what is it about 5036 is that at you want or need?. I'm not aware of any features that were added....so why did you update?

If your "system crash" was anything other than a complete hard drive failure, you could just use a new or different computer, install some version of Mach4, doesn't matter what version, then get access to the old hard drive with a USB enclosure or something, and copy the Mach4Hobby folder over to the new computer's hard drive and you're good to go. You'll need to procure a new license for the new hardware, of course, but that's easy.

Or just install the same old version of Mach4 you were using and either copy over the old stuff from the old hard drive or configure the new install as you did. There are many posts here about how to get your old profiles, screensets, plugins, macros, etc, over to a new install.
