mach4 lathe threading

mach4 hobby version 2- 4612, win 10 home 64 bit.

I have a problem with threading -  missing steps in a random fashion on z axis so I suspect that the index has a fault but x also misses steps in the same random fashion while running the program. Can anyone confirm that x axis is also using the index to regulate the movement. The machine works perfectly with no missing steps when just turning something and when threading the g00 moves are happening as you would expect with no hangup.

Have you got a clean index signal, X and Z use the index so taper threads can be cut.

The index is confirmed as faulty and my thanks to Graham who reminded me that you need an index for both axis as you can taper turn. Now to check what failed !!
