Feed rate problem
« on: October 25, 2007, 10:01:30 AM »
I have just upgraded to Mach 3 V 2.56 and I now have a peculiar feed rate problem.

On jogging the feed accelerates as normal to normal speed then immediately slows down considerably and then speeds up again to its normal speed. This occurs on all three axis. The feed rate DRO mirrors this happening.

I have not been able to ascertain if this change is present when actually cutting.

I am running latest updates to Windows XP and in all other respects the PC is the same as before the update to Mach 3.

Help please to put me right.

Disable backlash comp and see if that fixes it. Config., Backlash.

Enhancements.  :)

Go back to where you disabled backlash, enable it and set the speed to about 200%.
Go to general config., mid. upper, there is a shuttle accel value there. Set it between 0.05 and 0.1. You will have to play with these settings to get it to act like you want it to.

Thanks Brett, that worked fine with the shuttle acceleration at 0.05

Not sure I understand the significance of the settings though. The manual is now a bit out of date with the system.

Your welcome Alan,
The manuals are due to be updated, it is a very big job. I don't look for them to updated until the adding of features is much slower. Right now, Art, Brian, Zealous and others are adding sooooooooooooooo many goodies. The past year has brought a rain of gifts to us Mach users.  :)  I will be glad when they are updated, but to be honest, if they keep typing the code for the goodies, I'll gladly suffer through it.  ;D

Glad you are back to making chips.

I agree with you, certainly whilst we have dedicated people such as yourself providing the answers to our problems.

Keep up the good work. I for one cannot recommend a better system.

Wondering when the rain of goodies will spill over onto us lathe users. It's been awhile.

I'm sorry Dave, I though brains and flash screens were in effect for lathes too. Is this not the case?

Brains and flash screens are all very nice, but the lathe version of Lazycam is not out yet, and I have been crying out for a roughing/ reentrant cycle, same as the Fanuc G71/ G73, as necessary as the pocketing cycles are for mill. We have no way of roughing out an arbitrary shape in lathe at all, without resorting to expensive CAM programs, which, in my opinion, are less than complete for lathe work. Mills rule in the CAM world, but the lathe is all but forgotten because it's a 2 axis machine.
