May need to change computer that runs my mach 3 mill
« on: August 28, 2021, 11:07:42 PM »
I've  had some recent problems from a mouse ( rodent) getting in my electrical cabinet.
The computer tried to boot,  but wouldn't  fully boot.
I found where a mouse has been in my cabinet .
There are a couple of chewed wires,  but mostly  pee on some stuff.
I'm going  to unplug and re-seat all the connections.
If this  doesn't  work, I'll  have to set up another  computer.
I had a copy of my .XML???? file on a jump drive, but can't locate it at the moment.
If I have to use another computer, how hard will it be to do all the settings?
Will this be like starting over with a new machine?
It's been 10 years since my build.
I have drawings and pin outs, and pictures of everything.  Even several pages of wiring diagrams wire colors,, and wire numbers..
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Hopefully  I can find a loose connection.

If you have to get another PC then you could perhaps also get an adapter which will let you read the files from your existing HDD (or SSD) via USB. Then you can transfer your existing .xml file to your new PC.

Just a thought.

Tweakie.

If your .XML file is on a HDD or SSD, and is readable, then you could simply add that drive to the new PC. It's only a matter of two cables - Power & Data - and there will be at least 2 (maybe 5) spare data connectors (SATA) on the new motherboard. If there isn't a spare power lead (Molex or SATA) then a splitter or converter is available for pennies.

You can then access ANY data that is on the (old) drive just by navigating to it in whatever drive letter you decide to assign via File Explorer.

Thanks  so much  for that  info. I have a 'docking station' that allows you you read/ backup/ copy a hard drive that is out of a computer.
This will work great for setting up the new  computer.
Thanks again for the info!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Just copy Mach1Lic.dat from old computer to new one. It is located in C:\Mach3 directory :)
