About probing Z
« on: August 21, 2021, 02:26:58 AM »
Hello everyone.

When I pressed the green frame, "No contact with probe" was displayed.
I'm choosing G31.
Please tell me the solution.

Hi Toshio.K.  I don't have the ESS board.  But if you look at the Machine Diagnostics tab and close the probe circuit, does it show that it made contact?

Hello.
For me, two LEDs light up.
Probe and Touch.

I see you are using the Demo software.  I don't know but you might want to contact tech support to see if probing is fully supported in demo mode.

Also if you are using Mach4 Hobby I know by default it is configured to NOT let you move past Z zero in the negative direction.  Quick way to check is set your Z to zero and try to jog down.  You will know if it's disabled because you will get an error message that you can't travel past Z zero.  (I cannot remember the exact message).  If this is true then manually set your Z zero below the probe touch surface.  Then move your probe above your touch surface and try again.

There is a way to change the configuration file to all you to move past Z zero in the negative direction.  I will have to check my notes but I'm again not sure if you can change it in demo mode.

Please give my suggestion a try and if it works then at least you have a work around.

I will search for the instructions on how to change the configuration file.

Here is the post on how to set the 1801 value to allow travel in Negative Z.

Just noticed a spelling error in my previous thread.  Should read:

"There is a way to change the configuration file to allow you to move past Z zero in the negative direction."

I understand the cause.
I changed two places.
Please look at the photo. This is the changed part.
By the way, in the case of mm.
What are the values for each of the following items?
1. 1. retract amount

2.overshoot amount

3. in postion tolerance

I am not sure what you are asking me.  However based on your screenshot 10mm for In Position tolerance is way to high, but I guess it depends on your use case.

In case you want to know what my values (mm) are:

Retract: 0.2
Overshoot: 10
In position tol: 0.03

But my values might not be correct for what you want.  As of now I only use probing to set Z zero.

Thank you.
Does the probe come into contact with the object to be cut twice?

Depends on how you are probing.  I don't need to probe a workpiece.  I only use a probe with this kit.  (attached)
