Found the reference you were talking about. It was in the DOC directory for Mach4. It was very helpful in understanding variables in G code.

I think the problem might be with the variable to get the current tool number (#2029). When I look in Diagnostics->regfile-> and then # Variables, #2029 only shows 0.000. It doesn't matter what tool I change to.

Yup, that could be it.  Like I said, it could be a version issue.  I haven't installed a new version of Mach4 on a mill in well over a year.  No need to if they're all running fine.

I had to contact mach4 support. They told me to use #1231 instead of #2029. Change the variable and now it works as it should  :).
