Mach4 is costly of PC hardware resources. Why?
« on: April 18, 2021, 05:54:53 AM »
I use Mach4 Hobby with ESS, with regular license
The load demand on the PC's CPU is very high, despite the fact that the PC is powerful!
you can see it from the screenshots.
Why???

FYI

same mach4 and ESS but I have an industrial lic

pc is a old dell optiplex  990 with 16 gb ram

mach4 fully loaded and running enabled 16% cpu use
during gcode load it spikes to 33%  then drops to 16%

I know it does not help that's why its FYI

but please note I have removed unwanted stuff ( that a tech term) and it only has Mach4 installed no wifi not connected to the internet

Attach some of the files you're using and I'll take a look.
Also you haven't done any custom scripting in the PLC script have you?

thank you!
I attach gcode.
I am European, I use metric units, the gcode is in millimeters.
I have not made any changes to the PLC for the moment.

I am running the ESS card and Mach4 hobby on an Intel Core i5-3550K CPU @ 3.3GHz with 16Gb ram and it runs your code at 5 to 6% and the odd spike to 14%.

Unfortunately I can't give you an answer ...
I would like to understand it too ....
I tried it on the lathe PC where I have the Mach4 4300 version.
Plugin 3.205 with CsLab CS MIO IP / S.
(I don't update it because everything works fine for me and it's very stable)
I have disabled the servos and configured the Mill version.
The PC CPU load demand was around 50%.

I tried my wife's notebook.
CPU only requires 20% !!!.
I do not understand anything any more !!
surely there is some conflict at the software level, I have to try to find out which one it is.

I would start suspecting device drivers.  Video device drivers specifically.  See if there is an update driver for it.  Especially if it is an Intel Video "GPU on the CPU" device.

I found out why!
By mistake I had set too high a frequency in the plugin.
thank you all!
