Simplexmotion limit switches
« on: March 09, 2021, 05:46:29 AM »
Hi all,

I recently bought this Simplexmotion products for my CNC build. Still testing it not connected to the machine. I have:

3x Simplexmotion SM100 servo motors (https://simplexmotion.com/products/simplexmotion-servomotors/sm-series/)
1x Simplexmotionhub control box (https://simplexmotion.com/products/accessories/simplexmotionhub/)
1x UC100 motion controller that replaces traditional parallel port via USB (http://cncdrive.com/UC100.html)
3x induction NPN NO type switches for homing (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32622718479.html)

After initial setup all motors working fine in jogging mode and MDI. Did not try any NC program yet. So I wanted to test my home switches and hooked them up according Simplexmotion instructions that said that pin 10 is used as homing for X axis. When I let the X axis move in MDI (G01 F50 X100) and then hold the switch near a solid metal object, the LED on the switch comes on but the motor keeps running. So I read some more about setting up the switches and found that you should also select X++ and X-- with the same pin and port as the home switch so I did. Still no effect.

So then I did troubleshooting on the switch again. Measured with the motor powered up with 24v DC, with a decent quality multimeter. With the wires all connected as described it showed around 14v DC on the output wire of the switch not activated. With the switch activated the voltage goes to zero, as NPN NO switches should. So I tought that maybe in the pins and ports setup I should select "active low", on Home, X++ and X-- one by one. Still no effect but with all three selected on low active it gives an unresettable message "hard limit triggered". In the "Plugin control" tab there is a UC100 Monitor that shows the pins activities. So I tried all possible pins, 8, 10, 11 and 12 but there is absolutely nothing showing on any pin.

I have done everything that I can think of but to no avail. Anyone have ideas or suggestions?

for the basic test to check the status of the pins the “Plugin control->UC100 I/O monitor” screen can be
used.

there should pin 10 Change if you use X-Motor Input (pin2 on Motor connector)
if nothing happens, disconnect your Switch then:
1st test make a wirelink from GND to Pin2
2nd test make a wirelink from 24V to Pin2 (GND wirelink must be removed)
anything is possible, just try to do it.
if you find some mistakes, in my bad bavarian english, they are yours.

Ok, I will try that
