Connecting multiple e-stops & need some help
« on: March 22, 2020, 03:39:19 PM »
I have 2 e-stops and I am trying to wire them in series to a g-540 and have them read on the Mach 3 screen.  I can get one or the other to work, light up / lock out on mach-3 screen, but not the second. The second works, but does not lock out the mach 3 screen. I am not sure if my issue is in software or wiring.

I am also confused why some of the things i see for e-stop settings show I should be using port and pin 1 - 10 for my e-stop settings when port and pin 1-15 is the only one that seems to work. port and pin 1-15 is what i am using

Would anyone have a pictorial schematic of how to correctly wire the e-stops and know what setting should be used?

Thanks in advance

ok...... one wire comes from the breakout board to the first estop switch (normally closed)  from the other side of that switch go to the second switch (normally closed )  from the other side of that switch back to the breakout board.... bouth switches have to be out (in the closed position) or the machine to run....

Let me ask the question another way...

Imagine I have the following two controllers both working different sections of my CNC. The black one controls the spindle and the other controls the motors through a G-540.  All work fine except the e-stops.

How would I wire the e-stops so they both work on both systems WITHOUT blowing up either controller??

Currently, the black box e-stop kills the spindle, but does not show up on the mach3 screen or kill the second box.
The second box e-stop kills the 3 motors, does not kill the black box, but DOES show up in Mach 3

Thanks

I am going to assume this is a router  and the only way I see to do this is to have mach3 control the spindle and have only one estop controlling mach 3 now...    my arms are not long enough to fix this issue....

is this something you bought
what kind of breakout board motion controller do you have and what is the black box manufacturer  and model.

can you run dual contacts on each estop switch?

I assume your goal is for each E-Stop switch to kill power to all motors and signal the Mach 3 controller.

Each box would need to be modified to accept an external E-Stop signal, output an E-Stop signal to the other box and to signal Mach 3. This is not a trivial task. Details of each box will have to be known to plan the modification. It would be difficult, if not impossible, to obtain enough extra contacts to add to the existing E-Stop switches. Adding a small relay to each box can provide extra contacts.

Power for the relays would need to be available when the boxes are off. This means a supply not switched off in E-Stop mode.
Contacts from the relays would be substituted for the E-Stop switch contacts in each box.
The E-Stop switches contacts could then be used control the relays.
Contacts from each relay would be wired in series to signal the Mach 3 controller.

A simpler way to protect your machine would be to add an additional E-Stop circuit that kills power to the two boxes and signals Mach 3. More than one switch could used. The new E-Stop switches would need two contacts, one for power, one for Mach 3. The switches on the boxes would not be used in an emergency.
