Z zero randomly changes on its own
« on: February 27, 2020, 07:00:13 AM »
I have been using mach 4 for 2 months now. It has worked fine until this week. Now my z zero will change when I hit cycle start.
I always home my machine as soon as I turn it on. Then I load a program, then use my auto touch plate and set zero. It sets it at 1.9994. Now it has randomly been setting it as -5. Something. So I thought it had a problem. I started setting zero manually but now when I hit cycle start, it will sometimes change the z zero to the -5 and give me a soft limit error.
The only changes that I have made to mach 4 are adjusting the steps per unit, velocity and acceleration.
I have checked my travel in all directions and it travels the correct distance in every direction.
Watch the video and let me know what you think the fix is.

I guess I can't load an MP4 file on here. all the video shows is me hitting cycle start and the z zero setting of 1.9994 changing to a -5.something and the soft limit error code popping up like in the pic.

Do you have tool height information in your gcode file?
In other words is there a line that has H plus a tool number?

Hi,
you don't have any extraneous setting in the Offsets Tab do you?

How about taking a screenshot of the machine diagnostics block when this happens.

"Z axis commanded over SoftMax": What the error is telling you is that if you applied that offset in the DRO, it will cause a move that will violate the soft limits.  So I think this is purely a soft limit setup issue.  So...

The only changes that I have made to mach 4 are adjusting the steps per unit, velocity and acceleration.

If you have changed your counts per unit, you will probably have to change your soft limit setup.
