Motors won't turn in Mach4
« on: February 21, 2020, 04:31:17 PM »
Hi,
Im new to all this home CNC stuff... I bought a machine a half a year ago and right now its in the finishing process. And now i need someone smarter than myself  :(

But I have problems configuring the system right. From what i can see I have all connections the right way.
But when i connect all power, the stepper motors won't move. at all... They just stay locked in place.

My parts look a bit like this...

With a ESS smoothstepper, and a BOB, going to the motor drivers.
Haven't hooked all the home and limit switches yet, or even emergency stop.
Since i cant even get this to work, that seems a bit excessive.

So far, i have checked the 24V to be ok and i have fed the 5v rail with 3A (it drops to 4.3-4.4v during power on tho)  but i guess thats normal. I dont get any error messages and the DRO in mach 4 shows movement. The diagnostics tab for the ESS shows the output ports are high when used.

Is there anyway i can measure the signal going from ESS and or smootstepper, driver motor without an oscilloscope?
and is this the only place i need to configure pins ans ports for the motors?

I searched the forum but with no success to this problem, and only a few hits on google, but without any conclusion...

Thanks in advance....
Best regards //Lars
