MACH4 to PMDX-411: No Device Found error.
« on: October 26, 2019, 11:58:26 AM »
Hi,
   I have a Win7 Pro 64 bit computer running MACH4 build 4300
(updated to 4300 this morning - but the problem was initially
noted with build 3481).
The Motion Controller in use is a PMDX-411 which interfaces to
a Sable 2015 motor driver and table.
  Historically no problems were noted and the system WAS running;
until a couple days ago.  The problem now is that MACH4 auto-port
scan does not see the PMDX-411.  The PMDX-411 does show up in the
Device Manager under PORTS as STMicro...... its there.
Thought maybe an update to MACH4-#4300 would correct this but it did not.

Tried various profiles - it seems the default profiles do not
have the SmartBOB-PMDX-411 listed (understandably).  When
a default profile is opened the PMDX SmartBOB does not populate
in the list of available motion controllers.
 The 'custom' profile in use does list the SmartBOB-PMDX-411 AND it is enabled;
however, MACH4 still reports not being able to communicate with
the device.
Swapped around the USB ports --> same errors.
PMDX was contacted.  PMDX (Steve) indicated the 411 appears to
be functional.
Hopefully I am just overlooking something as it has been a
few months since I last used the system.  Any ideas?? please.

Thanks!

In an effort:  I was thinking to remove the USB port/hub drivers.
From what I understand, restarting the computer after the USB drivers
are uninstalled will cause Win 7 to take action and reinstall them; however,
I decided to check the PROPERTIES of the PMDX-411 when plugged into the
USB port.  I found the following:

While perusing the Device Manager I looked at the
COM3 Port Properties when the PMDX-411 is plugged into
the USB port.
 Under the STMicro...Properties window
General/Device Status box  I see the following:
" Windows cannot start this hardware device because its
configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or
     damaged. (Code 19)"
I HAVE NO CLUE AS TO WHAT THE SETTINGS IN
THE REGISTRY NEED TO BE...Can somebody please enlighten me?

I also checked:

Port Settings: 9600,8,none,1,none

Driver: STMicroelectronics
  Date: 4/25/2010
  Ver:  1.3.1.0

Thanks!!

TODAY:
Saved *.INI and screen files.
Removed MACH4 and PMDX driver.
rebooted computer and downloaded Mach #4300 and PMDX 53.263.
installed MACH4 #4300.
installed PMDX 53.263.
copied *.ini and screen files into MACH4 directories.
reboot computer, plug in PMDX-411.
Start MACH4.  --->  Same errors as above.

I perused a PMDX forum thread where the
port drivers were updated to 1.4 for a SIMILAR
(but not identical) issue.  Might the drivers need
to be updated??

  Thanks!

I downloaded and installed the v1.4 USB port drivers from the PMDX site
and with these files MACH4 now communicates with the 411.
Still have some issues but the main problem has been corrected.
ISSUE "ERROR: No device found" RESOLVED: download and update USB port drivers from PMDX.
