I don't know what I'm doing?
« on: August 27, 2007, 03:43:10 PM »
We are in the process of building a 3D router and we are at the point of wiring it up. We have ourĀ  mian power source in the cabinetĀ  we have not yet mounted a 5 volt power source (not sure if it is needed) and our gecko drives for the stepper motors. Now I'm trying to understand what else I need. Ability systems is telling me I need a G-code controller in the control box and also a Indexer LPT. Is this true or is this something that can be in the computer tower. I like what I have seen on this site so far and don't want to buy anything until I understand the system better. We have Macs where I work that can do 2D files in dxf and we have solidworks that we can do 3d drawings on now the question is what else to do need to get everything talking to each other? Thank you in advance for any help you can give me

I have tried to attach some photos of we are right now.

It looks like all you need is a breakout board and a PC  :), windows based with Mach loaded.

As far as the PC, copy and paste this in the search field an do a search.

min pc requirements

Several topics there. As far as setting it all up, look at the tutorials tab at the top of this page. Also, there are lots to help out here on the forum. Be prepared for a learning curve. It's not bad though and you will know all about it when you are done. I have sent you a personal message.
