Question before my next Mach3 question.

Hi all, The background about my question is, around 5 years back I was gifted a cnc in kit form. It's been in the loft 4.9 years of that time!

The spindle and inverter were bought as a fleeyby set, but have no markings. serial numbers or anything that might help. The spindle I have no clue who made it? but pretty sure from looking around it's 2.2kw 220v and I think 24k rpm. The inverter is deffo Huanyang with standard markings for power supply and output to spindle. which wired in all works as meant to. spindle start/stop works fine. I'll later need to do the parameter settings, which seem pretty clear.

The next thing was the cnc driver card and nemas, the driver card is a TB6560 (I think) 3 axis, reading the intronet forums it's 'The Blue Board'. X and Y axis were complete sub assemblies, the board functions just fine, it drives X Y axis in a Mach3 test program, Z axis is not put together but the stepper runs as it should, for the first time in my life I bothered to wire in and test both limit and E stop switches, and they function correctly in Mach3.

My Question is about the 3 spindle outputs from the Blue Card, the inverter and Mach3. In short I don't want to try to wire something that cant be done lol

The inverter has a tonn of input/outputs. the driver card only has min/gnd/mout.....I only need spindle start in forwards direction and hopefully S in program. and marry that up to Mach3 spindle settings?

Or will I need a dedicated card for the spindle?

Well that is the question isn't it......without the manual or manufacturers documentation it could be anything.
Do you have any information on it at all?

Hi Craig, thanks for the reply.

Sadly there is no documents or id on the 'Blue Card' but it is sold on fleebay as TB6560, the PDF sheet is here....

My question is around the 3 spindle interface lines, marked 'Mout' 'GND' and 'Min', But I think that they only turn 12~36v on or off, so most likely of no use to me at all?

The board and spindle vfd all work as should other than I have no Mach3 control over the spindle, I did search the forum before posting, without result, but unbelievably found a thread on the 1st page in general that I think answers my question?

Hi,
I use my mill, among other things, for making circuit boards, essentially an engraving operation.
For that I require my spindle go flat out all the time, ie 24000rpm. I don't want or need speed control...
just turn it on and off is all I require.

Even for milling of aluminum I often run at 24000 rpm with small diameter endmills, there again I don't require
agile speed control. If I require a somewhat slower speed because I'm using a larger diameter tool then I can reach over to the
VFD and turn it down a bit. Having programmatic control over spindle speed is nice but you can do a lot of work without it.

May I suggest that you not get to hung up on speed control. If Mach can turn the spindle on and off that might be enough.
Who cares whether you have Forward/Reverse? Do you have any lefthand cutting tools?

If you have a pot mounted on your VFD to change speed that may be adequate.

I would guess after you've done some serious work you'll realize that speed control is desirable but not essential.

^ agreed, for basic work on or off is enough. If you have a VFD with a knob for controlling output just put a reminder line in the code with a M1 after spindle start:

M3 M8
%Set spindle speed to 10,000 RPM%
M1

G0 x etc

Then it will stop and wait for you do do this and you can sort it out and send it on by pressing Cycle Start.

My mill's got an expanding sheave pulley drive but it's hand cranked into position with the motor running. I'm still trying to think of a way to control a motor drive to wind it up or down as part of an M6 call.
