Cannot get Motor Tuning to work
« on: August 21, 2018, 11:47:17 AM »
Hi,

Mach3 Newbie.  Have been using Mach3 for about 2 months on-and-off now. I've finally gotten my CNC plasma machine to cut what I want, but I'm having some issues with the motors not being tuned right.  Up until this point, I could go into the screen for inputting how many inches I wanted the motors to move, have it do that, measure what it really moved, input that and let it set my step per inch to what it suggested.

Now when i try and do this, my motors dont move at all or a minuscule amount (less that a 1/4 of an inch).  They still cut close to what I'm expecting them to (a little off, but the reason I've attempting to get them set correctly with the dialogs) but any attempt to get them dialed in correctly is just not happening.  The dialog appears (I've seen lots of threads on it not opening) - but this isn't the case here - it just won't hardly move them at all.

What would cause Mach3 to not be able to move my motors correctly?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

CMoon

you can also enter the steps per manualy in the Config -> Motor Tuning window.

calculate it by your own. for example your steps per is set to 100

-enter a G0X10 (use the largest value you can drive with the axis)
-take the real distance, lets say it ist 9,85

then 100 / 9,85 * 10 is your new step per value.

if you know all your mechanical Parameters , dont know how your axis are connected, you can calculate them directly.
anything is possible, just try to do it.
if you find some mistakes, in my bad bavarian english, they are yours.
