Can't jog more than 1 axis at the same time.
« on: July 04, 2018, 11:09:32 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm helping a friend set up his 6040 gantry CNC. It's been challenging to find all the information but we've managed to get the machine calibrated pretty close with good motion, limit switches, homing, soft limits all working properly.

Controlling the spindle via g-code is next.

However, I can't figure out how to get the Mach3 software to allow me to jog 2 or more axis at the same time. I know it's possible as I've used other CNC routers with Mach3 and can jog X, Y, & Z all simultaneously.

I've searched the forums and the Internet but can't find anything on this topic.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Jay

Hi.
you can jog only one axis at a time. You can however MDI a coordinated move where more than one axis moves.  For example:

G0 X50 Y100 Z200 <return> will cause all three axes to move, the X to 50mm, the Y 100mm and the Z 200mm and they will all arrive at their
respective end points at the same time.

Thanks for the reply Craig,

I use two CNC routers at our local Makerspace running on Mach3 and can jog all axis simultaneously on both of them. I haven't found the settings that allow that behavior and can't get the one I'm working on to job more than one axis at a time.

The biggest difference in the three routers is that the two at the Makerspace are using parallel port BOBs and this one is a USB interface board.

Hi.
you can jog only one axis at a time.

That's incorrect. You can most certainly jog more than one axis at a time in Mach3.
But, it may be that the chinese motion controller in that machine does not allow it.

Thanks Gerry,

Are you aware of any settings that have to be configured to enable this ?

No, it's just a guess, as I can't think of anything else that would cause it.

Hi,
if you are using the arrow keys on the keyboard of your PC then I think you can only jog one axis at a time. The keyboard can only produce one symbol at a time.
So it might produce a left arrow followed by an up arrow by another left arrow and the motion would be left, up ,left. What the keyboard can't do is produce an up arrow AND
a left arrow at the same time.

If you were using a joystick or two MPGs then it is possible that two jog signals could be produced simultaneously. I don't think I've ever tried, not having either a joystick and
I only have one MPG on my pendant.

I beg to differ, I can jog all axis X, Y, Z, at the same time using the keyboard.

Wrong again.  ;)

You can jog multiple axis with the arrow keys. I've been doing it for 10+ years.

Hey Craig,

As the others have said we're able to jog all the axies at the same using the keyboard.

I hope your best friend comes back  !  ;-)
