The price of the legacy parallel port driver plug-in is actually only $25.

Do keep in mind that it requires the use of a 32 bit version of XP, Vista,
or Windows 7.

As a legacy device it does not support Plasma THC or lathe threading, and
there are no plans to add these features.

So what is meant by "legacy Parallel port".  I hooked a win 7 machine and looked at the pp settings in the bios and it does support EPP mode.  Does legacy mean any machine with a built in parallep port, or the absense of EPP mode?  Will I still need the parallel port driver?  I watched ARTs video on the driver and got a bit overwhelmed.  This arm of technology is still pretty distant from my knowledge base.

I kinda assumed the old tech, but does that mean that I will need the Darwin driver regardless of the windows 7 EPP mode availability?  I don't mind paying the $25 unless I am paying it unnecessarily.

So, here's the plan....
I have the g540 coming today.  I will ...

convert all the motor connections to 9 pin connectors.
figure out which limiting resistors to use
purchase a mach4 hobbyist license
install the Darwin driver
hook up the parallel cable between my computer and the g540
plug in the motors
learn how to setup and use the software.

Is there anything else I need to get started?  I plan to get a pendent, better spindle and spindle controller at some point, but right now I just need to get this project working.
