Mach3 with VFD Spindle Speed Control Setup
« on: May 29, 2016, 07:44:33 PM »
Hi All,

Trying to hook up a new VFD to control my router spindle on-off and speed.  Im new to this so I could use all the help I can get.

I have Mach3 running on a PC and feeding a Xylotex controller via the DB25 parallel port with the Xylotex DB-25 breakout board in between to access my other signals (home switches, and probe).  My VFD has inputs for both 4-20ma and also 0-10 volts.

So these are my questions if anyone can help educate me :)

1. Should I use 4-20ma or 0-10 volts for the control?
2. Witch ever I go with, can I get my signal straight from the DB-25 brake out board, if so which pins do I use?
3. What configurations are required in Mach3 to set it up?

Thanks much for any help.

John.

I use the 0-10 volt signal.  You should have a 10v power supply available from the VFD.  Using the cw/ccw signal thru a relay adds a level of safety.  Your BOB should have a pot for fine tuning the speed signal.

My BOB is very basic with no speed pot.  It only has a small terminal strip to access signals.  Do you control spindle speed with Mach3 and just fine tune with the pot?

you can get an auxiliary board from Arturo Duncan.  His part number is C-41.  http://cnc4pc.com/c41-pwm-variable-speed-control-board.html  It has 2 relays for cw/ccw or en.
