5" rotary table for A axis, using a 50:1 shg-25-50-2uh harmonic drive (second hand from Korea, via eBay).
Shown here machining pulleys for GT2 belts.

Cheers

Excellent work Roger.  ;)

(just out of curiosity, how much was the s.h. harmonic ?).

Tweakie.

Hi Tweakie

Sorry, can't remember!  A couple of hundred dollars I think. A bit less than listed on eBay - I 'negotiated'.
There's almost $100 worth of Fortal aluminium in there too, plus a good small stepper. The toothed belt drive uses pulleys i had to make myself. Plus the 5" chuck of course.
I may have slightly overdone the robustness - not sure. It weighs a ton when I put it on the mill table.

See http://www.cnczone.com/forums/linear-and-rotary-motion/261174-cnc-engineering.html for a full write-up and testing.

It looks exactly like this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HARMONIC-DRIVE-REDUCER-SHG-25-50-Type-HD25-50-RED-I-116-/201557014777?hash=item2eedbbf8f9:g:WMgAAOSwq19XBkj0
but the vendor might be different.

Cheers
Roger

Wow, what an enjoyable thread that was!  It's always great to see excellent work done by someone that knows what they're doing & takes the time to document it clearly for others.  I also enjoy the frugal approach ie: utilizing bargain parts whenever possible & explaining the choices & the process of seeking out the goodun's.
Milton from Tennessee ya'll.

And the really good bit?
It actually worked to spec!
One always wonders a bit beforehand.
