Superpid and PC 7518
« on: April 17, 2016, 07:01:52 PM »
Anyone using a Porter Cable 7518 with a SuperPID?
I can't get a decent RPM sync. I can lock in 10k, but then by the time I "S13000" it's hitting 15k already.
What spindle speeds are being used?

I'm using a Porter Cable 691 (1-3/4 HP) and SuperPID with no problems.  Could be your RPM sensor/pick up needs to be adjusted.  I found that if not adjusted properly RPM will jump around or not run at all.

Hope this helps.

What are your pulley rpm settings?

LerninCNC, no , the sensor is fine. I can go from one bar to full-3 bars.

ger, that's what I'm asking for.

I had an older porter cable for quite a while and used 300 - 30300 and the rpm was pretty darn close all the way to 21k.
I'm trying to find the "sweet spot" for the 7518 but, as I said, if I do a S1000, it's right there. Do an S12000 and I'm taching in the 15k range already. And the higher I go the more out of whack it gets.
Is there an actual formula for setting the spindle rpm for the SuperPISD (probably should be asking Roman but figured someone on here is probably using the same setup.).

I'll have to look at mine when I get home, but I thought that you set the max to the max of the router. I think a 7518 is 22,000, right?
With my 690, I think I have it set to 27,000 max, but I'm not sure

Also, try deleting Linearity.dat in your macro folder, and close and restart mach3.

I don't think you have to set it to the actual max, like I said, my last router was max'd at 27.5k but setting the SuperPId to 300 min and 30300 max gave me an actual rpm within 300 of what I set it to.
That's why I'm asking if there's any definitive formula to set it.

So if you do a M3 s12000, what reading does the superPID show? then try s15000, check reading. and so on.

No, there's no formula that I'm aware of.

My SuperPid is pre-production version of the original one.
When I first set it up, and tested it, I checked every 1000 rpm, and iirc, almost every rpm was within 50-100 of the commanded rpm.
I know it's not quite that accurate now, several years later, but it's still within 250rpm I think. I don't really pay attention to it too much.

I had to wad through a few hundred posts to find it, but here are my settings and what rpm's I was getting.

Ha!
Not sure why I thought I needed to change the settings but I went back to 300 and 30300 and it's right on the money again!
Bone head move on my part.
