Cable length
« on: March 12, 2016, 01:07:19 PM »
I have convinced myself that my computer problems, locks up, will not load, sometimes OK, are due to the computer being located in my garage which can be cold and damp here on the wet west coast.  Is it feasible to move the computer into the house and then run 20 ft. cables for mouse, keyboard, screen and controller, or will the length of the cables make the whole system unstable?  Computer and machine are used on an irregular basis and it can be a week between times the computer is on.

I think you will be asking for more troubles than you have now;)

My stuff is all in a garage and i just leave a small electric radiator on 24/7 to keep it above cold.

Maybe even a light bulb, inside the case, left switched on would be enough to keep the comp happy.

Good idea, I only use the heater to keep the damn rust off the machinery, turns red really fast without it :(

Long cables bad idea.
20ft step dir :s

What else have you done?

Have you tried reinstalling windows and checked the cooling and power of the ting?
A lightbulb emits noise so if you put it in your case I guess you should turn it off before starting the pc.

I just finished installing 5 meter (16 foot) cables and it seems to be working fine.
I am still working on lost steps on the X axis only - I think binding is the cuptrit as
I have a moving knot that may be too tight.

I have two lenovo computers and both of them cannot be used for the cnc. Just too
many problems with the on board parallel port.
