jerky movement -
« on: May 09, 2007, 05:58:28 AM »
greeting
Recently I got another PC to tun my prototype gantry machine.
This is P4/2.6Ghz with XPpro and thought of trying the latest Mach3-V2 on this.

Machine is was running well with Mach3 V1.7
on eiher old pc - P3 800Mhz under W2000
or from notebook P4 3GHz with Xp-pro Windows.

I have the same setting in all PC's, buit with new Mach3 V2
I am getting jerky motion on all axis, independent of what speed
I am running.

I went throught the steps of optimisation of XP, but no difference.

Wonder if anyone may have similar experience.

Cheers

On the new set up, are you running in CV mode or exact stop?

;D If you could see the things I have in my head, you would be laughing too. ;D

My guard dog is not what you need to worry about!

If you have a spare PCI parallel port give that a go, could be your new computers port is borderline.

Just an opinion, have you checked 45Khz? If you checked 25Khz or 35Khz you get jerky movement. I do not know why, but this is happening to me. I can not run on 25Khz or 35Khz, only 45Khz. More than that on 25Khz and 35Khz the machine is making very nasty noise. Maybe someone can explain why this is happening at least in my case??

 :) Thanks for the response.
I have tried both CV & exact stop
and run it at 45KHz, no difference.
Then I checked the backlash setting, which was ON.
When I disabled this, everything is OK, machine runs well
even better then with the old PC with PIII/800Mhz.
Then I remembered that I had some funny motion before
with the other PC'S also, under Mach3 V1.7,
when I activated the backlash. Since I have rack & pinion drives
this would be good to have working correctly.
BUT I am happy that at least I  got the machine working as before.
ONLY question now left is the backlash issue.
Thanks

The latest versions have the backlash sorted, or so I am told, have never used backlash.
