Mach 3 on Windows 10
« on: July 26, 2015, 07:27:16 PM »
So...Windows 10 is about to be released and I would like to know if Mach 3 will run on it. I want to know if I have to stay with Windows 7 to run Mach 3 or will there will be Windows 10 support. I don't really want to upgrade to Mach 4 yet (not ready for it and I don't think it is ready for me).

If you're using the parallel port, then no, it won't work. If your using a motion controller, it should, but I don't know of anyone that's tried it yet.

I am seeing some DLL errors pertaining to the UC100 USB plug in.  Have not gotten to the smooth stepper plug ins yet on windows 10

Update, a quick reinstall of the mach3 core installer and reinstall of the UC100 drivers/plugin seems to have solved the DLL pop up errors.  I have not sent motion out yet.

I just "upgraded" to 10 on several of my computers, but the computer that I eun my router on will no longer start Mach3. Trying to start it gives a memory error and it restarts the computer. Uggg! Time to revert it back to win7.

Works fine for me on my cnc lathe with USB Smoothstepper.  Simply upgraded from Win7 and everything came across.

I ran into one problem with my Mach3 license not working after doing a clean install of Windows 10, which I managed to fix.

I had installed Windows 10 on a new second hand PC (a Dell OptiPlex 755) I am using for my CNC controller using an ESS SmoothStepper board. However during the Windows 10 setup, I used my Microsoft account as a login. This caused the Windows 10 install to abbreviate my email address as my Windows username (folder name). My Mache3 license didn't work.

So I did a complete Windows 10 reinstall (no big deal as I stuffed up a few other things - considered it a practice run), however this time I skipped the Microsoft sign-in and instead created a local user account with my full name (as it appeared in my Mach3 license), which created a matching folder name. This time when I reinstalled Mach3 and copied over the Mach1Lic.dat license file into C:/Mach3, it worked.

Something to watch out for if you go this route. Other than that Windows 10 appears to run all my existing CNC software and drivers just fine, GWizard, CamBam, MeshCam, CutViewer, Mach3, ShuttlePro.dll etc.

Loaded win 10 and had problems with  Mach3. Removed and reinstalled Mach3 and it runs ok.
Connected to the CNC and cut 4 jobs with out a problem.
