« on: May 21, 2015, 09:43:14 PM »
Hello Guys!

I'm really new to all this cnc stuff and i want to know how i calculate me step size so my machine jogs 1 unit.

I have a nema 23 steppers (200step) set at 1/8 step and its fitted on a 5/8-10 rod.

I'm guessing 200x8=1600 but after how do i calculate the rod ? 1600x10=16000?

If i want to make it jog 1inch for example what missing in my calculation?

Thanks.

Yup ... that's it. If it is direct coupled. No pulleys or belts or other reduction.

Open the Jog pendant, (tab key) set the jog to "step", 1", each press of the arrow  should then jog 1 " .

There is info in the Mach manual on how to calculate the steps per unit. There is also info in members doc's on how to calc and additionaly you will find calculators to do it. You can also use the axis calibration feature "ALT 6 " tab / lower left corner
and to find the steps per unit.
