Putting up this post for my friend from Glasgow.
He bought an Avon knee mill a while back and it has taken quite a while to get the retrofit done (weegies are slow ) but I am sure you will agree it has been worth it.
Below are 2 pics of the mill on his trailer just after getting it home.
The ways had been reground but the bearings in the X axis were not great so they were replaced and there is a small amount of backlash but he plans to get a new ball screw in the future.

The CSMIO/IP-S was used on this retrofit  and the 3 axes are using Allen Bradley DSD-020 servo drives with MPL-A320P motors (1.3Kw, 5000rpm) with belt reduction of 2:1. The spindle servo motor drive are Indramat but not sure of the model.
The main cabinet houses the axes drives and CSMIO etc and there is an additional cabinet that houses the spindle drive and associated components.

Forbes  transformed what was already a nice retrofit by making an enclosere for it. I think it looks great and should make a huge difference. Pics below.
Hopefully Forbes will  give some more info if needed.

Can you post a picture of the base of the mill and enclosure?  I am curious how the enclosure ties into the mill at that point.

Hi vince, I am assuming you are asking how the enclosure is connected to the mill, if so at the back of the enclosure I have 4 stainless bolts with 50mm discs bolted through the enclosure into the electrical cabinets either side of mill to support the rear of the enclosure, and 2 40x40mm angle either side to support the front
I just roll out the tray which us on wheels to empty.

Actually, I was wondering how the bottom is connected as in "what keeps the coolant from leaking onto the floor".

ok got you,

I have a splash tray on wheels with a square cut out it  so that it can go around the mill table column and get pushed right back,
The enclosure is tapered in at the bottom so it sits quite far inside the splash tray, it has a rubber apron attached to it at the bottom that touches the inside bottom of the
splash tray , the reason for the rubber is when the coolant runs down the enclosure and splashes on to  the bottom of the splash tray it can not splash back out on to the floor.
The coolant once inside the splash tray runs down in to the mill sump.
