Mach 3 Port 1 not working, Port 2 is working
« on: April 20, 2015, 03:26:39 PM »
I'm having a problem setting up Port #1 in under Ports and Pins in Mach 3 running on a Windows XP 32 bit desktop with a Model PMDX-2PARPCI parallel port interfaced to a Gecko G540 controller.

In Mach 3, if I enable Port 1, enter the parallel port address and set inputs/outputs to port 1, I cannot get it to communicate with my machine.    If I do the same thing in Port 2 i.e. enable it, enter the address and configure input/output settings to port 2 it does work.  I'm about at the point to just to go with Port 2, but my preference is to use Port 1 so, I'm wondering if anyone might have an idea why it isn't working and how to fix it?

Thanks
Jim

I presume you actually have 2 physical ports? As far as Mach is concerned it doesn't really matter which you use.

My computer has done this for years.    When I turn on the computer I have to go into ports and pins, change the address of the port,  save the change, go back into ports and pins change the address back to the original address, then save it again.    Works great until I turn the computer off.   Sounds flakey but true.

That is because some PCs use roving address settings for ports. It can be different each time the PC starts  It sets it to whatever it wants to use. You can change this to use a standard address each time it opens.

FWIW,
In the BIOS of the computer you can sometimes choose the address for the pp.
Have a look and see what the address is. Then go into Windows and see if the address is the same.
They should be. Now use that address in Mach's configuration and make sure you save the settings.
It should not change.

The only way I can see it doing that is IF mach3 is not saving teh XML correctly OR is corrupting it when saved.  I would do a complete WIPE of mach3 off the PC and start over. I would also use V.062.

Just a note WHEN you get it working correctly Save a copy of the working XML off to another drive or thumbdrive. Do not trust the auto backup function to safeguard your backup of the XML.

Just a thought, (;-) TP
