Smooth stepper with original DC brush drives or geckos?
« on: April 20, 2015, 12:46:01 PM »
Hi.
I am bringing an old CNC milling machine back to life. It has 140V DC servos and drive cards that are good.
I did buy Gecko drives for my servos but they told me it would slow me down. This is not a big deal as I usually never feed over 40IPM or rapid over 100IPM.
My question is; is it possible to keep my original drives and what do I need to make it work with the smoothstepper and mach3.

Original controls are about 1993 Anilam S1400.

If these feedrates are attainable with the geckos, I'll probably stick with them.

Thanks.
