A smal problem

As the title says, I have a problem.

I just ran a set of code that I generated from Vcut in Aspire. I set the maximum cut depth as being 1mm

I have zeroed the cutter and verified that it is correct at zero, however the cut which is actually being made varies between around 0.5 mm and 2mm, at no time does the z axis exceed -1,00 according to the readout.

I am assuming I have got some basic setting incorrect somewhere, I am new to all this and the machine is new.  Could anyone offer any advice as to cause and how I might verify the problem, and then of course correct it please?

If your V-Carving, the depth of cut is dictated by the spacing of your vectors.
If you specify a max depth of -1, it won't go below that?
Basically, what your seeing sounds correct, but without seeing exactly what you're doing, it's hard to say what's wrong.

I have checked through the code and nowhere does the z go beyond -1.0mm, I watched it as it ran and again the code did not go below -1.0 at any time, but the engraving was over 2mm deep in places, I have rerun the setup which confirms that my z axis travel is correct, or within 0.01mmm anyway, on other cuts, the depth of cut has stopped at the pre-set depth.

I am confused

Are you certain that the Z-zero is correct at the surface of the workpiece?

Also, once you load the code, switch to the Toolpath tab.
In the upper right hand corner, you can confirm the limits of the program that is loaded.
DROs can change rather quickly at times so you might have missed it or it could be updating at a rate the picks numbers along the way without reflecting every single move. For example, I was drilling some holes today and even though I know it was pecking in at 0.1" increments, the DRO would show -0.0987, then start retracting, then go down to -0.1997, etc. I am certain the DRO wasn't seeing all the numbers.

Are you sure that your table is flat? Is the workpiece held down securely?
If it is, then it sounds like the Z axis is losing position.

I have run some tests and it looks like the workpiece I used was not 100 % flat, the table etc is as good as I can check it but I think the wood was perhaps not quite parallel sided.

On a separate note, I want to fit a new spil board and would want to run a large cutter over it to ensure it is flat, I have a 2" carbide cutter I got for the purpose, could anypne suggest a set of code to allow me to do that, what is best, go across side to side or in a rotating style?
