New to Mach and a question
« on: May 23, 2014, 05:03:24 PM »
Hi, im new to Mach 3 and CNC. I built a CNC router and have the controller and motors connected. The problem I have is I have a Toshiba laptap running windows 8. I was reading posts that I need a USB controller, any suggestions? also, does the USB controller replace the controller that came with the motors? Thank you

What did you actually get with the motors? Probably just a breakout board? If it is, then you'll probably still need it, depending on which motion controller you use.
Take a look at the UC-100 or Smoothstepper.

its a covered plastic box that the motors connect to, it has on/off and spindle speed control and parallel port connection

The USB motion controller will have a parallel port connection, that you should be able to just plug into your box.
The box most likely contains a breakout board, power supply and stepper drives.
