no motor movement - taig micromill
« on: March 13, 2007, 02:52:27 PM »
Hi all
Here's what I have:
Taig Micromill, a couple of years old, just upgraded to mach 3, xp computer, pentium III, 40 g hard drive, mostly empty

the motors are not responding to the keyboard jog.

Printer port is 0x378

The pinouts are set to

axis | step pin |  dir pin | dir lowactive |  step lowactive  | step port |  dir port
x       3           2          active low       active low                   1           1
y       5           4          active low       active low                   1           1
z       7           6           active low       active low                   1           1

Neither sherline mode or non works.

No motor response, except they twitch when I turn the computer on.

any suggestions?

Chris

You also should try Sherline mode... ther drivers for the Taigs are a bit slow

Here are photos of the inside of the controller
One of the circuit boards says 2003

If this is not compatible with mach3, will it run with an older version, mach 2 or 1?

thanks a bunch
Chris

These are the pinouts I am using, info is from Nick Carter - http://www.cartertools.com/mill.html

The pinouts are set to

axis | step pin |  dir pin | dir lowactive |  step lowactive  | step port |  dir port
x       3           2          active low       active low                   1           1
y       5           4          active low       active low                   1           1
z       7           6           active low       active low                   1           1

Neither sherline mode or non works.

No motor response, except they twitch when I turn the computer on.

Thanks
Chris

My step pins are even and dir pins are odd.

The motor tuning settings that seem to work best are:

- all axes (except 4th, which has different value needs)

Step 32000 Vol 9.654 Accel 2.25 Pulse 0 Dir 0

- jog rate % 25 (it was set by default at 95%)

This allows it to jog from the keyboard, but it doesn't run code properly.
The scale is off x y and z and the speed is faster than the steppers can handle when it runs a file.

Thanks
Chris

You need to set your Max velocity to about 25% of what it is now. You do this under your motor tuning. If you can't run at 100% jog you will not be able to run a G00 (Rapid) move.
