Getting error message
« on: March 07, 2014, 10:56:59 AM »
My cnc router was working well, when I started getting error messages. Smoothstepper is used.

Error message is:

Error returned from USB function FT_Write
Error: FTDI USB driver error

ERROR= FT_INVALID_HANDLE

Bytes requested 64
Bytes written 26

Any suggestions for fixing this?

Red led remains lit on smooth stepper

Thanks,
Jim

Remove the power from the SmoothStepper (USB cable if not using an external power supply)then reconnect after a second or so and then start Mach. If you still get that error then contact Greg at Warp9 and see if he can help.

I tried that Hood. No go. I've sent an email to WARP9  and will await his response. I might also haul out an old computer and start from scratch. BTW, what is the process to retrieve a bought MACH3 license for use on a new (old) machine?
Thanks,
Jim

The mach3 licence is a file called mach1Lic.dat, simply copy that to your new setup, placing it in the Mach3 folder.

I've had that error before.

From what I remember, I unplugged the SS (making sure it was powered down if you're feeding it from an external 5V supply), and with it still unplugged, started Mach so it produced an error that it couldn't connect to the SS. Then quit Mach, plugged the SS back in, and then reopened Mach.
