Another Chiron FZ12 being rebuilt
« on: March 05, 2014, 02:07:29 AM »
I found a Chiron FZ12 S that has been standing under a roof.

The machine has been there for about 6 years as the original set up parameters have been lost and the local support for the older machines does not exist.

The unit was built in 1987 and commissioned on the 39th of May 1988 here in South Africa.

I found the original user manual inside with the original paper tape with the set up data on it.

I will be removing the Sinumerik controller and installing a CSMIO unit as per the work done by Hood on his machine.

I want to use the original Siemens motors and the Siemens servo controllers.

Looking forward to seeing some pics , will be interesting to see the progress as well.
I have recently been conversing with a guy from Poland that has also done a FZ12 with the CSMIO/IP-A but his has the pallet changer table. He also kept the original Siemens motors/drives and I would have also if that had been an option.

Looks great doesnt seem to have done much work at all as the arms are free from chips and coolant etc. Mine was worked hard and put away dirty but still after all these years it is tight and accurate, so yours will be the same :)

The machine stood still for about 6 years as they couldn't get it to work.

Suspect it stood for a while before then too.

I removed the motor and the splines are all clean and smooth, no wear where the splines mat with the spindle.

I have seen these manuals before but as it is an operating manual I didnt think it would contain any info that would be of use to me. As I have totally retrofitted the Chiron I would think the only manual that would be of use to me would be one which contained part drawings.
However maybe I am misunderstanding what that manual is, is that the same as the one you have with the part drawings?
