CV Control Help For Beginners....
« on: February 07, 2014, 08:29:16 AM »
Messing about with my plasma table this morning (no torch yet, just felt tip pen) and i thought as it was a plasma i would flip the "Plasma Mode" checkbox to on?

Anyway as the tests got harder, I noticed it was running very jerky on curves and was not happy at all so i have just flipped "Plasma Mode" off again and all is well again.

Could someone explain what is happening here and what, if anything should be in the "CV Dist Tol" box and "Stop CV on Angles >" box?

Just want to make sure I have every option  I should have ticked and set right while im learning :)

Thanks

I don't use a plasma, but if you cut parts with 90° corners, set Stop on Angles to 89° and turn off CV Distance and CV Feedrate on the Settings page.

Thanks that seems to be ok.

Why it would work less better with "Plasma Mode" turned on is a bit baffling but as long as its working I'm happy :)

In plasma CV is king. You don't want to be restricting it in any way or your cut quality will suffer. Bottom line is if you find yourself having to tune CV you're in trouble before you start. Acceleration, acceleration, acceleration - you can't have enough of it.

Ok so is the route to CV nirvana found with the "plasma mode" check box turned off then??

Seems a bit contradictory if so ;)

TBH I have no idea what "plasma mode" actually does over plain vanilla CV. All it says in the manual is:

Quote
Plasma Mode, if checked, this controls Mach3's implementation of constant velocity moves
to suit the characteristics of plasma cutters.

and

Quote
In Plasma mode (set on Configure Logic dialog) the system attempts to optimise corner
motion for plasma cutting by a proprietary algorithm.

So your guess is as good as mine  :)

I've never use it and just make sure I'm in G64 and that all CV "options" are off - works for me.

The route to CV nirvana? Like a said (IMHO) - acceleration. (and a stiff enough system to handle it).
