Cutter Comp Bug ??? , can someone take a look
« on: September 02, 2013, 10:29:05 PM »
Could someone load this sample file and step through it to verify that cutter comp is sometimes being applied during a linear move progressively from the start point
to the end point ?

Set your tool diameter offset to .010" for tool number one then step through and compare the program values to the actual DRO values.

Thanks

What do you mean by diameter offset? If you're talking about the diameter wear value, it is NOT used in comp.

IF you are talking about the axis creep on the stopped axis while running the code YEP that is a BUG. It only does it on micro tool sizes such as .010 at about .1 it stabilizes and runs correctly.

Ya know guys you have to forgive me but Ive use Mach since 2004 and for the life of me I dont understand why Mach is being updated to Mach4 without a solid foundation to build on. It seems to me that this is a fundamental function that is really needed by most people. I'm not trying to degrade Mach in any way because its afforded me the ability to machine parts with minimal expense but it seems as though there may be alot of emphasis on other things when the core funciionality needs to be fixed. Is there any plans to fix this bug before I get priced out of Mach4 ?

No, the vast majority of existing bugs in Mach3 will not be fixed.
I believe that due to te way that Mach3 was built, with feature added on top of feature added on top of feature, that it is too complex to fix most of the existing bugs.
While I agree with you 100%, that all Mach3 bugs should have been fixed, it's just apparently not possible, or for some reason, not worth the effort.

As far as building mach4 on a solid foundation. I believe that's what they're doing. But they're not using Mach3, it's an entirely new foundation, with the goal of not ending up like Mach3. Any bug in Mach4 should be much easier to fix, so we shouldn't end up in the boat we're in today. Unfortunately, Mach4 is about 5 years in the making, and has been "coming soon" for about the last 3 years. Hopefully, it will be worth the wait.

I haven't been a regular follower of the site for quite some time but what is the current status of Mach4 ? Is there any information about a release dates or
a timeframe of when it might be available ?
