Looking for utility to cut rectangular pockets
« on: June 15, 2013, 06:11:49 PM »
I need a program to cut a series of rectangular pockets. I need to be able to enter the variables and have the machine cut my materials. The variable needed are as follows.
Size of bit
Width of material
Length of material
Thickness of material
Width of pocket
Length of Pocket
Number of pockets
Distance between pockets
Feed rate
Pockets are always centered on the width
The pockets would generally be cut along the Y
Cutting first pocket one size and the second another size would be helpful.
I am willing to reimburse someone for their time to create such a program.
I build Vinyl fences and this is to cut my materials.

You would also need the offset of the 1st pocket from the top of the material.

Just a thought, (;-) TP

Yes that also. If you know vinyl fence it is the holes in the posts and then the holes in the rails in which the pickets go in.

I believe the rectangular pocket wizard only does one hole at a time.

open up a notepad page and cut and paste the code you need for each hole.

You've made no mention of depth (are these pockets or holes?)

also no mention of step-down (or do you cut them in one pass?)

Sounds like a good sub-routine macro using multiple work offsets.
Same cut pass routine, just a new location!

HE is cutting pvc fence material . It is square or rectangular hollow material about 1/8- 1/4" thick sidewalls . The cuts are holes made in one pass.  I have a friend that does that for a living as well.  His is a duplex machine that cuts one group as you load the next.

Once you have your standard cuts and patterns done there is little left to program from a wizard. A wizard would not be hard to do. I am resisting the urge to build a PVC Fence Wizard but the force is great(;-)

The problem is not my ability to write the program. the problem is the time to write the program. I will probably have to write some gcode though. I have a project to finish this week.
