Hi Nobby,

I doubt you would buy one ‘off the shelf’, so to speak, but I am certain you could cobble one up if it was your desire.

The prime factor with CNC is accuracy / repeatability / reliability / etc. and anything ‘wireless’ potentially opens the doors to outside, unwanted and perhaps unexpected, influence to the machine’s operation.

A wireless breakout board could be considered the same thing as having a radio controlled CNC machine. A very neat idea but not a risk I am prepared to take so I think I will just stick to shielded cables and hard wiring for now.

Tweakie.

PEACE

Have to agree, just too many horror stories of machines not responding to wireless control and "taking off" on their own.

No thanks, I have a hard enough time making good parts with everything wired ;D

Why not? I think wireless stepper motors would be great too.  ;D
Happy machining , Jeff Birt

I don't think its a bad idea either. I work as a electrical engineer with large VFD's and process controls. It's becoming more and more common to see wireless field devices such as pressure, flow and temperature transmitters. Siemens, Fisher-Porter have a complete line of wireless devices. The software has build in safety (fail safe) in the event of signal loss. Almost all overhead cranes used in factories have wireless control pendents now... So why not CNC?

Can you show me one of those 6 axis cranes with speed control?
