3D software
« on: May 06, 2013, 05:40:35 PM »
i am looking for suitable software for cutting 3D images on a router. i have mach3 but i think i need a separate system to write the correct gcode.  if anyone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.  i am currently in the process of starting a small business and would like to make my forms on a router for precision.

"3D Images" is probably not the correct terminology.

Typically, you create a 3D model in a CAD or modelling program, and then load the model into a CAM program to create toolpaths and g-code for Mach3 to run. Without knowing exactly what you're trying to do, it's hard to give much direction.

these videos are not the material i will be routing but these are the types of images i would like to route.  I'm sure my terminology is not correct, i am not used to this type of software.  i use enroute on a 3 axis router for work but only 2D imaging.

You can purchase the 3D models from VectorArt 3D and use their free software.

For V-Carving (first video), Vectrics V-Carve Pro is your best bet.

If you want to create your own 3D models, then Vectric's Aspire is a very good choice. But creating your own 3D reliefs takes a LOT of skill and practice. Artistic ability is the biggest factor.
