-M Home, Limits and Servo Drive CW/CCW Limits
« on: April 03, 2013, 07:05:07 PM »
I'm in the process of configuring a -M to 2 servo drives.
The manual shows HOME and LIMIT to individual pins for each axis ...
Is this necessary ? or, can all HOMES and LIMITS be in series to one input ... like in Mach ?
The attached note is not entirely clear as it might imply that ONE of the axis switches can be HOME and LIMIT, as in the illustration. (also attached)

Also, the drives have inputs for CW/CCW limits that are configurable, NO or NC.
Should these be included in the limit circuit also ? All in series ?
Or, just ignore the servo Cw/CCW and let Mach3 and the -M handle it ?

Not clear in the manual ..... to me anyway.
Thanks (Hood), :)
Russ

Dont have the M controller but I think it will almost certainly work in the same manner as the S
What I found was that having all limits and homes using one input does not work, what you can however do is have all limits as one input and have separate homes. You may even be able to have all homes set to the same pin but I have not tested that out.

I think you could also have all X limits and home as one input, Y as one Z as one and as long as you have the home safety disabled in General Config it should be fine. I am sure I tested it that way but cant be sure. As I have the A and S I have plenty I/O so I set up seperate homes and combined limits but the M has less I/O so maybe this option would be better as it only needs 3 rather than 4 the way I have it.

Thanks Hood.
And about question #2 .... about including the drives CW/CCW limit outputs ?

Not really sure what you are contemplating there Russ, how would you be inputting the limits to the drive? extra switches? or ?

Just wondering about wiring the existing switches to the drive as well as the -M, being everything is 24v.
Probably not necessary, but seems it would be an extra safety to halt the drive.

You could use the limits like that Russ, dont really think there would be any benefit using the outs from the drive though as the limits will also be going to the CSMIO so it will know already when a limit is hit.

OK then, I'll save the wire for something else.

Thanks,
