More Windows 8 problems with MACH
« on: March 26, 2013, 04:19:41 PM »
I am getting 2 error messages when uploading code from Vectric Cut 2-D to Mach:

1. "FAILED TO FIND DATA ON INSTALLED VERSION OF MACH"; and 2. "FAILED TO FIND RUNNING INSTANCE OF MACH"

Mach is running! Don't know if this is a Vectric or a Mach problem, but since MACH is mentioned in both errors...........

Also, I see on a number of forums that these same errors were reported as problems on Windows 7 PCs, at the time when that was new. Now Windows 8 is new, and the same problems.

MACH GUYS: do you know about it? Is there a fix? IF not, what's the workaround? Thanks

Once before I saw this happen when Mach was not installed in the recommended location.
Vectric looks for C:\Mach3 but don't see it if it's not there.
Is it in the default directory ?

Not much out there on this one.
Did you check on the Vectric forum ?

I would have taken the default directory for the Mach install. The sheetcam thread has no relevance to this problem.
I have just joined the Vectric forum but it has to be approved (next business day by the looks of it).

As I said, these same errors were reported with Windows 7, way back. Disappointing it is the same with Windows 8 and perplexing why Mach and/or Vectric weren't tested with this OS!! Not an unfair observation, considering 2 weeks ago I reported another Mach prob. on Win 8

This thread outlines the same problem that ocurred when Windows 7 was new:

http://www.cnczone.com/forums/diy_cnc_router_table_machines/112509-vectric_cut2d_output_mach3-3.html

The problem lay with Mach. It does not say if the scheduled new version of Mach solved the problem, only that an unofficial registry hack, neither endorsed nor supported by Mach or Vectric personnel, fixed the issue (though some users did apply it all the same, perhaps in desperation that no timely software patch was forthcoming from Mach).

The sheetcam thread has no relevance to this problem.

The part where it says ... "or how to automatically get my g-gode to go to mach3?" seemed relevant at the time.
It's just what came up from a search I did for you, sorry.

If you've installed a recent version of Mach3, than the problem has probably not been fixed, and you'll need to modify the registry. Sorry, but I don't have the details on it.

You might want to try uninstalling Mach3, then installing an older version like 3.42.040, then update to the latest and see if that fixes the issue.
