Table Size Limits
« on: December 13, 2012, 09:47:49 AM »
NEWbie here.  Is there anyway to tell the MACH3 software how big the table surface is so it doesnt go past that pre-designated size?  I am instralling limit switches as a precaution, but is there a way to tell the software for example the table size is 32"x46"?  This way the machine will not go past these numbers and if they do, the limits switches will trigger as a backup.

Thanks in advance

Hi RG,

No its' not a dumb question at all.

It is probably better that you get the information first hand by downloading the manual http://www.machsupport.com/docs/Mach3Mill_Install_Config.pdf
then checking the Limits section 5.6...

You will be an expert in no time at all  ;)

Once you have your limits set up you can also tell Mach to use them as Home switches.
Ok once you have that done when you press RefAll the machine will home, if you have the homing direction set correctly (tool is lower left of work area and fully up) you can then set the Soft limits.
For X and Y Min you want to set 0
For X and Y Max you want to set the distance of the respective axis
For Z Max you want 0
Fro Z Min you want the distance of the axis but as a negative number

You can then also set a slow zone, probably something about 5 or 10mm (0.2 - 0.4 inch approx) It will depend on your acceleration how big the slow zone needs to be and to find out you need to move a distance away and then jog at full rapid toward the end of axis and if Mach can stop in time your slow zone is fine, if it starts slowing way before then set lower, if it hits the limit set bigger.
