Motor problem
« on: October 17, 2012, 06:21:39 PM »
I am just starting up a new machine with version 1.84 Mach3 which has worked fine on an identical machine.
The Z stepper works fine.  The X motor oscillates back and forth and runs very rough.  the breakout board is a C10 and all other inputs and outputs are working ok.  Any ideas?

Try swapping motors or drives around to see if the problem moves.

Away from the shop for a few days, will try when I get back.  Any thoughts on a wiring problem?

If the motor is not turning but just jumping then I would say you have the pin assignment for step and direction round the wrong way but I think you said it did move.
You may have the wires on the stepper itself mixed up, could be you do not have the coils connected in the right sequence.

hi friends

i am new to cnc machine iam designing a cnc machine using dc motors for axis control instead of stepper motors. i would like to know whether mach3 can support to dc motors for controlling axis.is there any circuit needed for this purpose can u please help me in this case.please guide me through this. becoz this is my academic project.

Hi Saiz,

Stepper motor is the cheapest method of control.

Basically, if you cannot afford to buy stepper motors then you certainly will not be able to afford servo motor controllers, amplifiers, encoders etc. that will be necessary to control your dc motors.

Not much help really but, to my knowledge, there is no easy (cheap) solution to what you are proposing.

Hi tweakie,

i am not using servo dc motors i am using just common dc motors of 30 rpm 12v supply. so is it possible to run this motors with mach3 software.

in order to control how top give pulse to the parllel port from mach3 settings are needed

Hi Saiz,

I understand what you are asking but you would need 'servo controllers' to drive your motors and 'encoders' to provide the feedback position of their shafts in order to control their movements and this would cost a lot of cash.  :'(
