Text centering
« on: August 26, 2012, 05:28:43 PM »
Did a search but couldn't find anything. It looks like it should be pretty simple but if I have a square that I want to center text on, what is the best way to do it? I tried using the mach 3 text wizard but when I import it to Mach 3 it shows as being way off my table. I marked the center of my material and zero'd my machine on it but haven't actually ran it. I'm using Mastercam X5 if there is a simpler way of doing it there instead.

There are many options but the method I prefer is to set the datum (X, Y Zero) at the centre of the created text then locate the centre of the work and zero the machine at this point. As you have discovered, the engrave wizard is not so good for this but there is a free engraving software "F-Engrave"  http://home.comcast.net/~sskroch/Fengrave/fengrave.html which is almost, if not perfect for this task.

Thanks for that link. I downloaded it and am playing around with it now. I'll let you know how it works out.
