Thread Mill Wizard - Slanted thread produced
« on: August 02, 2012, 06:08:05 PM »
Hello, every time I try to use the thread Mill Wizard for a ball nut the thread produced is sharp and a great fit but it is always slanted. Pictures and g-code below, I am beginning to think it maybe my MACH setup as I have seen many do this. I did check to ensure the TAIG mill is square

A visual of what I am trying to do is here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Suwl_HzouVU&feature=player_embedded

Any help would be appreciated. . Thx.

Code looks good so only things I can think of is Z out of square, or an axis losing steps.

Hello, I have done this at least 20 times with the same result and I have never heard missing steps. I have used 1-2-3 blocks to check if the mill head is square.

Is there anything I can check from a z-axis motor tuning perspective?

If you have home switches do a verify after running the code to see if things are ok.

You made the cutter from a tap. Did you leave too much of the flute? Normal thread mills there is no helix on the cutters.
